Dede's Mousey Mousey Bread on Ice-Cream Stick

I am basically a strawberry jam & butter-on-Gardenia bread person. But a little bakery on the basement floor of Gurney Plaza has caught my family's attention. Dede's Bakery is like a Disneyland food counter that sings Old MacDonald Had A Farm from day till night. Yes, that childhood melody plays on and on the minute you enter the shop !

Blueberry tarts and madeleines look droolicious but my kids have fallen for these bread on ice-cream sticks. It is so much fun to pretend you are eating ice-cream when you are really not. The layered doughs are coated with my kids' favourite cream flavours - chocolate and strawberry. Each stick costs RM2.20 and I have to put 6 on my tray. Buy 5 Free 1 !

The Mousey Mousey box is folded to look like a block of cheese and the picture of a little blue rat makes takeaway all the more fun. On the side of the box, some marketing genius has created this clever tagline - " We bake happiness ". With a bun costing as much as a whole Gardenia loaf, happiness is perhaps to be savoured once in a while .....

A Grasshopper on My Cili Padi Tree

I know the grasshopper is a herbivore creature but can it really take the heat of a chilli tree ?

This garden insect was so big and mean-looking, I immediately saw through its camouflage. Sensing my intrusion, it lost its appetite and slowly turned away.

Perched on the cili padi branch for a minute or two, it then flew over the wall at lightning speed. So, will its green turn into fiery red ? Just wondering.

What's She Reading ? Make a Guess .....

image © june ong ; captured on nokia n95

Books and shelves on a carpeted aisle
Hid a quiet moment of my child
On elbows and tummy with legs bent
To pages of stories her mind went.

Curious, I asked " What are you reading ? "
A naughty grin followed with " Nothing "
Book was back on shelf but upside down
I placed it upright after a frown.

Barbie tale or Princess from Disney ?
Not today, said 6 year old-to-be
Reading was fun with pocket monsters
Pokémon comics are the best-est !

Prettiest Pony @ PTC National Horse Show 2009

Without doubt, Portous was the prettiest pony at the Penang Turf Club breed display area for the National Horse Show ( 5-7 June 2009). The white French Saddle Pony's mane was braided into, what else but french plaits ! It was Toddler E's first close-up study of a horse and he was fascinated.

Sustagen 100% NutritionLand @ Queensbay

Eight thumbs up to Sustagen and Mead Johnson Nutritionals for organizing this event well. My kids loved the short activities and generous goodies bags. I liked the colourful and well-defined activity corners. With my SustaClub invitation card, I also redeemed a door gift - a plastic container good for storing a pack of 650gm milk powder. The kids were each given an activity card, a sheet of stickers and a little cup of vanilla flavoured milk to get them started.

Activity #1 : Little Big Breakfast
Miss J had to assemble a sandwich from the pictures on the computer screen. She could not decide which to put in between two slices of bread. Butter, vegetables or cheese ? Hmm, how about a click of everything ?

Miss C has learned to make real omelettes at home and could not wait to show off a virtual sandwich on this screen. But first, Miss J had to place a glass of Sustagen milk on the breakfast tray before she could collect her 1st reward stamp.

Activity #2 : Snack Attack
Toddler E was completely overwhelmed by the big picture puzzles on the 'p.m. snacks' wall. His sisters rendered help and they collected their 2nd stamps on the activity cards.

Activity #3: Lunch Adventure
The little ones crawled into the tent to look for toy food. They remembered to put the Sustagen milk carton into the basket and so a 3rd stamp of approval was given.

Leggy Miss C found the task a little tricky as she had to crawl her way around the low tent.

One more hurdle - each kid had to retrieve a specified toy food hidden under these hundreds of colourful balls. Toddler E was very unhappy when he had to leave this fun area !

Activity #4 : Dinner Shopping
Miss J scrolled down a virtual supermarket aisle and clicked her choices of food for dinner time. Her grocery list included Sustagen milk of course, and she was duly rewarded with the 4th and final stamp.

Happy moment came when we collected the goodies. Each paper bag held the usual gifts of a growth chart, a product information brochure, a sheet of stickers, a car sticker and a sachet of milk powder. The nice surprise was the box of non-toxic jumping clay that came with simple accessories for making a magnet, a spring and a key chain. The girls could hardly wait for playdough time ....

The kids had their weights and heights taken and recorded on their activity cards. The dietician's quick assessment of my kids' records ? All 3 are physically growing at a healthy rate. They just need to enjoy bigger portions of greens and fruits.

I was very happy to note the Junior 1+ sachet in my toddler's gift bag. I have lost count of the times I felt irked by promoters giving out sachets of milk powder that did not reflect my kids' age needs. So thumbs up again, Sustagen, for giving out right sample sachets and not having to pacify me with terrible excuses like " Sorry, this is the only type of sample available."
